Al Dawes
For as long as I can remember I have been captivated by birds. As a keen birder I enjoy being actively involved in the conservation of birds rather than just watching them and have worked hard to make my hobby and passion for birds also pay the rent. After studying fine-art photography at art college, I retrained as an ecologist, gaining a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of London and Masters degree from the University of Wales. After graduating I have worked for the BTO, RSPB and several environmental consultants.
The first date with my now wife was a visit to the GBG project! From that day I was smitten (obviously not just with the Bustards!) and nearly a year later I joined the GBG, to help recruit volunteers, host visitors to the site and give presentations about the project to interested parties. In my spare time I also help with the general running of the project, conservation work in Russia and monitoring Bustards in the UK and Russia!
