University of Bath
Special thanks to Tamas Szekely in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry for all of his time and expert advice.
The University of Bath campus is situated a mile from the centre of the World Heritage City of Bath. As well as having a fantastic location and an attractive campus, the University of Bath is regularly rated in the top 20 universities in the UK, being ranked tenth by the Sunday Times in 2005, which also short-listed Bath for it’s University of the Year award. These facts and figures illustrate the high standard of teaching offered by this University; this is also reflected in the high proportion of students who go into further study, full-time employment or employment with further study after graduation. Research carried out by the University of Bath is on a wide range of subjects, including drug development, genomics, complex systems and innovative manufacturing, and is internationally-respected.

University of Exeter
Special thanks to Richard ffrench-Constant in the School of Biosciences for all of his time and expert advice.

And with their continued investment into facilities more and more academic staff are attracted to Exeter, making it a fast-growing and increasingly respected University.

Viridor
Donations from Viridor Credits have allowed the GBG to take on new staff.
In 1996 the Landfill Tax Credits Scheme (LTCS) was started to assign a proportion of the landfill tax collected each year to be donated to a variety of community, conservation and environmental projects located within ten miles of a landfill site. Viridor Credits was set up to distribute the Landfill Tax Credits arising from Viridor Waste Management’s operations across the UK, and ensures that 100 % of the available funding is allocated to suitable projects. All applications for funding are carefully considered to make sure the money is used as effectively as possible. By the end of 2006, Viridor Credits will have given out over £50 million in landfill tax donations to more than 1,500 community and environmental projects.

Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles
Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles produce six unique designs of jigsaw puzzles for the GBG. Wentworth puzzles have proved hugely popular and their sale helps to raise valuable funds for the GBG.
In 1930’s there was a need to cut costs and labour when producing jigsaw puzzles, this saw the demise of the wooden jigsaw puzzle and the introduction of the mass produced cardboard jigsaw puzzles. Until 1995 there seemed no economical way of producing wooden jigsaw puzzles again. However, after two years of research, the Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Company created a process which used two very different state-of-the-art technologies to produce high quality wooden jigsaw puzzles once again. This process is unique throughout the world. A Wentworth jigsaw puzzle contains ‘Whimsies’ (puzzle pieces of specific shape, often related to the subject of the puzzle) as well as other intriguing challenges. It is thought that a 250 piece Wentworth jigsaw puzzle takes the same time to complete as other standard cut 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzles.
